Miles' Baptism
Miles' baptism day was caught right in the middle of a whirlwind of activity. It was a very special day, but after years of anticipation it came unexpectedly fast. We'd gotten back from our trip to Europe just two weeks before, and had his birthday party in between. We were unsure if we'd be having the baptism with other kids from the ward, or by ourselves. We'd never planned a baptism before, and we didn't know if any family would be able to attend. Most of all, we wanted to make sure Miles was ready to baptized. For the last two years we've told him this was a choice he would have to make, and that it was not an expectation. It has been exciting to see Miles' maturity as he made the decision to be baptized.
We were lucky to have Kirstin, Danno, Seth and Caleb stay with us and help us plan the luncheon after the baptism. We also enjoyed spending time with them, and watching divers at The Mayan the night before the baptism.
We were also lucky to have good friends at the baptism. The Mauermans, Tices, and Jorgensens, as well as the Ferrins, Ian and Anita, and Grandma and Grandpa Willard, and a couple friends from the ward.
I gave a talk about baptism. I told Miles to see if he could unhook a lock with his hands. Then I gave him a key, and compared baptism to the key that unlocks the blessings of the gospel. I told Miles to remember to help others, and I talked to him about his natural desire to serve.
Grandma Willard gave a talk about the Holy Ghost. She explained that it is something you feel, rather than see. She talked about her conversion to the Church and how the Holy Ghost has helped her when she listens to its promptings.
Mark performed the baptism. He said he felt the Spirit very strongly, and it was a very special opportunity for him.
Miles was glowing. He looked so happy, and he set a great example for his friends and family.
