The thing about toddlers is...

One minute they're hugging a teddy bear

And the next minute they're tackling their brother.

Tonight Evan cuddled up with me on the couch, his little head tucked under my chin (and his hair smelling like lavendar, of course) and I felt bad for accusing him of being in the terrible twos. It's just that he acts like it so often: the tantrums, the unwillingness to share, the insistence on eating only one type of food for weeks at a time. But tonight he was still and calm and I was able to look at his profile. He still has baby cheeks and long eyelashes that brush against them. The world is still a very confusing place to him; one that he feels he needs to be in control of to make any sense of it at all. I viewed him from a different perspective; he is not in his terrible twos, he's just a little guy trying to figure out how to make sure he gets his wheat chex on demand, a drink of milk, and a chance to watch Wall E. In return he offers his unconditional love and loyalty, the kind of love displayed by running into your arms, coloring pictures for you on his body with non-washable markers, and late night cuddles. The twos really can be terrific. And I think I was allowed this new perspective for a reason...

potty training begins this week. Wish us luck (and any good potty training tips).

I have no potty training tips to offer you (being that we tried every trick out there with Roxy and not one of them worked) but I wish you the best. You are always such a chill mom. Your boys are extremely lucky to have you!

Good luck. Just don't give up... I still have to tell myself that as Cooper's peeing on the bathroom floor because he couldn't get his pants down in time.
