Losing Teeth

Not too long ago I wondered if Miles would ever grow a tooth. He had passed his first birthday, already talking, but not a single tooth in his mouth. I almost considered getting x-rays just to make sure there was something inside his gums. Then, last week, Miles told me his tooth, and I do believe it was the very first one that finally made its appearance in his mouth, was loose. He couldn't keep his hands off that wiggly tooth, but he also avoided biting into an apple or any other crunchy thing for fear that it would fall out and he wouldn't be able to find it. He ended up pulling it out himself after it was so loose he could practically spin it around. This was the cause of great celebration for Miles, signifying that he is growing older and losing anything "baby" (as in baby teeth) is exciting for him. Evan was very interested in the tooth-losing process, and jealous that it wasn't happening to him. He would point to his mouth and say, "This tooth is really wiggly!" I'm afraid he would pull them out with any force necessary if he could. The Tooth Fairy brought Miles some money and a new toothbrush, as well as a note instructing him to take care of his teeth and learn how to floss. The excitement of the Tooth Fairy really got to Evan and in a moment of pure envy he got Miles' new toothbrush and used it himself. Maybe he thought it would help his teeth fall out.

The toothbrush incident may not have been so bad if Evan wasn't sick. Completely ruined Miles' toothbrush.

Wow - Miles already lost a tooth. How exciting. Tell him he looks fantastic with a holey mouth.
Poor Evan - I remember feeling a little tooth fairy envy myself.
