Good habits, not to be confused with good hobbits, make a big difference in my day-to-day life as a mom. A few years ago I ran across Flylady in a newspaper. She has wonderful cleaning and home organizing ideas. Eventually, I made it over to her site and took to her ideas with gusto. I made a control journal detailing what tasks needed to be accomplished each day, including a day to clean my fridge, a day to clean my car, plus deep cleaning areas each week of the month. I did a load of laundry each day, making sure it was folded and put away. Each night I set out the clothes I would wear the next day. In the morning I would make the bed and get dressed to shoes. Bathrooms were swished and swiped every day. It was a great system. I had all the excitement of a new convert.
Then I'm not sure what happened. I think when I went to Real Estate school the habits started to slip. Good habits slip faster than they're built, and bad habits don't take any time to sneak in. A few of the flylady mantras, including doing one load of laundry a day and having a clean sink for the morning stuck pretty well (not perfectly, but they were still there). Then, last night, I spent a SOLID hour cleaning my bathroom. That's an hour scrubbing, bleaching, mopping and spraying to clean the bathroom. I spent another good amount of time getting clutter off of our dresser and taking things out of our room that shouldn't be there (cars, dinosaurs, small socks). After being pretty exhausted, I decided that I should probably get Flylady routines back. But it feels like a big commitment. I know when I was doing her method, I did not let myself off the hook, not even for the really boring jobs like rearranging the linen closet. I don't know if I'm ready to let myself notice all that stuff again. So, how about you, have you ever tried Flylady? Do you have your own cleaning/organizing system that works? Or should I just accept the fact that when I have two little boys in the house (I do try to make them help, by the way), I will be injuring my foot on dinosaur spikes and pirate ship pieces every day?

You are doing better than me. I looked into the flylady a few months back and it seemed like way too much effort. My system is to wallow in my own filth until we have visitors and then clean like mad.
Kirstin, you are funny!!
I was going to tell you when Miles tried the fudge you sent us he said, "Of course this is good, Kirstin made it!" He is in admiration of your cooking skills.
Ha I love flylady! I really tried to stick to her "shine the sink every night before you go to bed" thing. After a few nights I found myself emptying out the dishes onto the counters really quick, and shining the sink instead of actually "doing" the dishes. :( I tried!
That is so funny. As soon as I start trying to "cheat" the system, I know it's not going to work. :) Cute picture of you by the way, Lindsey.
Hey Gretchen I found you on Kendahl's blog. I don't have much of a system (we're pretty similar to Kirstin, I think). Everyonce in a while think I'm going to stay on top of things, but it doesn't take long for something to come along and throw the routine out of whack. I've heard a lot of good things about flylday, maybe I'll give it a try.
Lani, I'm glad you found my blog, do you have one? How are you guys doing?
