Miles has been talking a bit recently about what he wants to be when he grows up. His plans are to be a "robot maker," as I've mentioned before, but it has gone so far as to now include going to BYU (maybe beause of my
brainwashing?), where he learned there is a robotics program that does "robot soccer" as a senior project. When I told him about robot soccer, he wanted to visit the school's website to see pictures, and we discovered that it is in the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering. So here I am with a 5-year-old that thinks he has a college major picked out.
Robot soccer in all its glory:

All of this made me think of what I wanted to be when I grew up. If I was doing what I wanted to do when I was five, I would be an artist and a teacher. I would also be a gymnast and I would ride horses. I might even be a member of Jem and the Holograms. Surprisingly, none of these things have come to pass. Hopefully things will turn out better for Miles.
Fashion and fame, no one else is the same, JEM! Jem is excitement!

The gymnast I wanted to be after the 1984 Olympics:

The way I see it, as a Mom you are a teacher eight days a week (as the Beetles say), you've designed layouts for a magazine and you have a good blog which shows you are an artist, and goodness knows when you get out RockBand you put Jem and the Holagrams to shame. The gymnastics might have escaped you - but at least you still have some tissue left around your knees.
I wanted to be a professional basketball player. The whole fourth grade laughed when I told them that. I was going to show them. But then I never got past 5'2".
I still think you could have been a professional basketball player. Remember that guy who was a short point guard? Thanks for letting me feel better about my young goals! Your book so far is amazing. I should finish it today.
