My Husband is 30

30 is a milestone birthday for most people. For my husband, who is of the "eternal youth" sort, it is a little bit scary. When I met Mark he would jump over huge garbage cans with his skateboard. He was as skinny as a rail (he still is). He had braces, and a mind full of ambition to be a network engineer. I would quiz him after school, not even understanding the computer code I was speaking in. He was 22 years old when I met him, and he was excitedly preparing for life. He was also falling (madly) in love with me. :) I remember how he looked when I saw him for the first time. It was a Valentines Day party. I looked across the room and saw a guy with short dark hair and tan skin. He was wearing a very cool leather jacket that looked like a prize find at Savers, and a light blue shirt with a bear on it (see, I told you I remember it clearly!) I told my friend that I had to meet that guy. Maybe at the same moment, Mark saw me and told his friend that he had found his Valentine. I can tell you that Mark now, at 30, is more than I hoped for in the optimistic 22-year-old that I fell in love with. He is what every kid would want in a dad. I know he loves them to the point that it hurts. Miles has inherited a lot of Mark's qualities - being kind, soft-hearted, funny, and adoring of me. :) Evan got Mark's curly hair, brown eyes, love of movies, and independent personality (although Mark would probably call it stubborness and attribute it to me). They both run to the door when Mark gets home from work. Mark also has the wonderful ability of making people happy. He loves to have fun, to keep in touch with his friends, to find good music and go to shows, and to always make sure he has the latest and greatest cell phone. Please, Apple, don't come out with any more iphones! Anyway, we all know that 30 is very young, and that our lives have many, many adventures ahead. I'm glad I get to face them all with the birthday boy. Happy 30th Mark!
