There is something deep in the subconscious mind that seems to draw people to the vacation spots of their childhoods. For me, one of those places is Yellowstone. Apparently, that's true for most of the population of America, Europe, and Japan. We went to the home of Old Faithful this weekend with a few thousand of our favorite friends from around the world to experience the beauty of Yellowstone National Park. It is a breathtaking, smelly, odd, steamy, crowded, amazing place.
We wanted Miles and Evan to see up-close the effects of magma, the shooting geysers, the waterfalls and wildlife. It was not lost on them. They were impressed. Miles wanted to go on every trail. He got a true adventurers spirit. Evan was a bit tired from the driving, but loved seeing a tepee behind our cabin. On the second day we bought Evan a small cowboy gun and holster. He called it his "cowboy set," and couldn't be without it. Wearing his "belt with a pocket" he really got into the spirit of the Old West.
We also stopped at a place called Bear World on our way to the Park. Bears, elk, bison, wolves, all wandered in front of our car. Bear World also had rides for the kids, so obviously it was a hit.
Now, we wonder, will the kids remember Bear World or Yellowstone? Either way, vacations are good.
